Most of us don't know how to treat disabled people. Is acknowledging the disability helpful or destructive? What makes them feel included?
When we began working with Easterseals—a 100 year-old nonprofit helping America's disabled integrate with their communities—we believed the disabled needed recognition. We were so wrong.
Seeing them as "other" isn't helpful.
Seeing them as human, is.
We built brand awareness by confronting this innate prejudice. Our campaign challenged people to see the person before the disability and earned two prestigious awards in the process—real impact on communities and a place in the Smithsonian.
